Easy Web Cam
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What PORT is EasyWebCam server using, I need to set this in my gateway/router?

A: To find out what port it is using, Right Click on the main EasyWebCam window, click on 'Show Advanced Settings' and then click on the 'Server' tab. The port being used is shown in the local port number box.

Q: I know my user name and password are correct but EasyWebCam wont upload to my free web space.

A: There could be two reasons for this, if you haven't uploaded for over 1 month then your free account will have been deleted. Just sign up again.

If you set your free account up less than one month ago then you may have signed up to the free Adult site. You will need to tell EasyWebCam to use the adult site.

Start EasyWebCam and then click on the 'Xtras' tab and then click on 'Advanced settings' button. When the Advanced settings appear, click on the 'Server' tab. In the lower section of the window, make sure the Adult option is selected.

Now Click on OK and try to upload again.

Q: I can't get my Live Video feature to work at all

A: We have some tutorials for you to follow which will probably help you out, Click Here

Q: Is it possible to download an OLDER version of EasyWebCam before DirectX was needed?

A: Of course, you can get version 2.9.6. Click Here to download now.

Q: When I try to switch cameras via the Internet, I get a message saying 'SORRY, Camera x is either already selected or isn't available for selection' even though the button is available on the page for selection.

A: This is usually because the web cam you are viewing has the scanning feature turned ON. By the time you have clicked the button, the camera has already changed to the one you was selecting. Click on the REFRESH button at the bottom of the page before you click the camera button just to make sure you have the latest data loaded.

Q: Colour depth problems

Some people have reported that the uploaded image does not look as good as the preview image on EasyWebCam. Typically they report that the uploaded image has very limited colour depth and the quality is very low.

All of those people were connecting remotely to the computer running EasyWebCam. Typical scenarios were people using Windows XP`s remote desktop connection or Win NT terminal services clients.

This is where the problem lies, when you connect to a computer remotely, the remote computer adjusts it's desktop resolution to a very low (sometimes 8 or 16 colours) resolution to speed up the connection and response times between the remote and controlling computer. Any software on the remote computer will think that the display adaptor (video card) can only display these colours (8 or 16 colours for example) and therefore EasyWebCam`s uploaded image will also have this colour depth. For some strange reason, the preview image in EasyWebCam still looks good, even though the resolution is low (don't know why).

Try this,

Set EasyWebCam to upload every 1 minute. Then re boot the remote computer.
DO NOT reconnect to it using terminal services or Remote desktop connection.

now monitor the web page that EasyWebCam is uploading to. When the computer has re booted and starts it's first upload, you should see a much clearer and more defined picture uploaded. This is because the remote computer has it's correct video settings back again.

To avoid this problem you should increase the colour depth when doing remote connections.

Q: I keep getting the message 'Winsock is blocking communications'

A1] Are you using Dial Up networking BUT! also have a LAN (network) connection too.
This is the most common problem when you are trying to use dial up and a LAN at the same time.
Please make sure you have the following set right.
Go in to CONTROL PANEL (in windows) and then select Internet Options.
Navigate to the 'Connections' tab
Now MAKE SURE that the Always dial my default connection setting is checked/enabled (or at least the Dial whenever a network connection is not present)
Now re boot your computer and try to up load again.

A2] Are you using Dial Up Networking and DON'T have a LAN connection at all.
Go in to CONTROL PANEL (in windows) and then select Internet Options.
Navigate to the 'Connections' tab
Now MAKE SURE that the Always dial my default connection setting is checked/enabled
Now re boot your computer and try to up load again.

A3] Are you using a firewall?
If you are using a firewall then you MUST allow Easy Web Cam
to access the Internet through it. Either read the instructions about
allowing programs access rights or speak to your systems admin about it.

Q: The web cam uploads (or says its uploading) but when I look for the image file, it's not there.

A: Try turning OFF Passive FTP upload option in the FTP tab. Also watch the status bar for any error messages.

Q: Is it possible to alter the upload frequency to LESS than every 1 minute.

A: Yes, just keep on pressing the DOWN arrow next to the upload frequency selector and you'll see that the time will turn from minutes to seconds, you can go right down to every 5 seconds if you want. To get back to minutes, just press the up button.

Q: Can you add support for more Web Space providers in the FTP section of the web cam?

A: Yes, but I need your help. There are so many Web Space providers out there, it would take me years to keep up with them all. If you know the FTP and web address format of a particular Provider, then please email me the details.

Q: When I click on 'Capture and Upload' I get the message; Save failed, can't upload (or similar). Why do I get this?

A: There could be a few reasons for this one, firstly; make sure that the software is installed properly, try re installing the software. Secondly; make sure you can see a preview of your camera in the main interface. If you can't see a preview or at least a still picture from your camera, then the software will give you this error.

Q: I am behind a firewall at the moment, is there any way I can upload the image using FTP to my web server?

A: FTP is the standard way to upload files and is the way that EasyWebCam uploads files already. You will have to ask your system administrator to allow your computer to access the FTP port. Basically your firewall is blocking all outgoing requests to the FTP port (which is like a channel to the Internet, email uses a different channel, www pages use a different one etc.). The FTP port used by EasyWebCam is 21
