Getting your Live Video Feed working.
Are you watching the live feed on your own network?
(if you are trying to watch the live feed on the same computer that
EasyWebCam is running on - OR - if you are trying to watch the live
feed on the same LAN or wireless network as the computer that is running
EasyWebCam then answer YES to this question)
YES - Click on the 'Server' tab in EasyWebCam
and then click on 'Click here for advanced server settings'. In the new
window, make sure there is NOT a check (tick) in the box that reads
'Use external IP address'. Now make sure there IS a check in the
box that reads 'Enable the built in web server'.
NO - Click on the
'Server' tab in EasyWebCam and then click on 'Click here for advanced
server settings'. In the new window, make sure there IS a check
(tick) in the box that reads 'Use external IP address'. Also make sure
there IS a check in the box that reads 'Enable the built in web
server'.
Finally make sure that the port you are using is set to
'80'. This is shown next to the 'User the following local port for
the server' text. If you change this port number, make sure you change it
in the examples we use below.
One thing to remember is that MOST
of us are given a different IP address (e.g. 213.123.324.1) every time we
log on to the Internet (this does apply to DSL people too!) so you
have to make sure you have done a 'Capture and Upload' in
Easy Web Cam BEFORE you or somebody else tries to watch your live feed.
This allows EasyWebCam to update your uploaded web page with your current
working ip address.
FIREWALLS! Firewalls are great things for protection, but more
often than not then block out good people too. This is how it works, when
somebody tries to look at your Live Feed, your firewall jumps in to action
and does the job it's supposed to, block them out.. You need to tell your
firewall that incoming connections to your IP address on PORT 80 (most
important) are okay and should be allowed. You will need to read the help
file of your firewall to learn how to allow incoming connections or set a
rule. If you are asked whether it's a TCP or UDP connection, select both
or as a minimum select TCP. You might find it easier to just TURN OFF your
firewall whilst you get the live feed running, don't forget to turn it
straight back on once you're up and running though.
Ok, go ahead and click on the red Capture and Upload
button in EasyWebCam. A fresh web page will be uploaded to either our free
web space or your own web space depending on which you are using. Now open
that web page in your browser.
On the uploaded web page, you should see your web
cam image along with some other text. Near the bottom of the web page you
should see a link saying 'Click here to connect to my live video feed', so
click on the link. You should by now see your Live Video Feed working and updating approx
every 1 to 5 seconds depending on Internet traffic and your connection
speed.
If you do not see the feed working and ARE using a router, then you should
ready the tutorial about setting up your router to allow the connection
through to the correct machine on your LAN.
