This tutorial explains the basics about setting up your router to work with EasyFreeWebCam and hopefully enable to built in Live Video server to work.

Generally speaking if you aren't connected to a LAN (local area network) and using a router, then you won't need to read any more on this page.

Step 1:
You need to find out the local IP address of the computer that you are running EasyFreeWebCam on.

If you are running windows XP or 2000 then try this. In Windows, click on START then RUN and type in    CMD    then press OK.
In the new window that appears, type in     ipconfig     and then press ENTER

If you are using Windows98 or ME then try this. In Windows, click on START, RUN and then type in     winipcfg   and press ENTER.
In the new box that appears, from the drop down list at the top choose the name of the network card/adaptor that you use for your internet connection.

Whichever method you followed above you should now see your IP address shown which might look something like 192.168.1.2 - write it down for the next step. ALSO make a note of the default gateway address for the next step.

Step 2:
You now need to log in to the admin section of your router, they all differ so you'll need to read the user manual or ask the manufacturer for help but try doing something like this:
Open your web browser (Internet Explorer etc.) and type in http://192.168.0.1  or  http://192.168.1.1
If you followed Step 1, then you will have seen a setting called Gateway or default gateway, this is probably the address of your router so you should open http://DEFAULT_GATEWAY_ADDRESS (replace this with the ip address of your default gateway).

You will probably be asked for a username and password, look in the manual for your router for this info, you don't always need to enter the username, just the password with some routers.

Step 3:
When you are in the admin area of your router, you will need to look around all the settings and try to find one called PORT FORWARDING, or PORTS, or anything that mentions ports or redirection etc.

When you find the port forwarding section, in the IP address box, enter the IP address of your computer as discovered in step 1.
If you have the option of TCP/UDP check them both or just one if you don't see both options.
In the PORT range box or boxes enter either just 80 if you only see one box or if you see two boxes (from and to) enter 80 in both boxes. NOTE: If you have altered the default port setting in EasyFreeWebCam then enter your chosen port number in here instead of 80.

Make sure you click on SAVE or APPLY or just make sure the settings get saved and then close your browser.

Finished:
That's it, if you have followed these steps right, then you should now be able to have people view your live video feed from anywhere in the world over the internet.

NOTE: Some routers (like mine, a NetGear router) WILL NOT! allow you to view content on your LAN using your external IP address if you are on the same LAN. So basically if you are trying watch your live video feed on the same LAN as EasyFreeWebCam is on, then you won't see it, it will look as though something is wrong, but it isn't. Get a friend to look at the feed or ask somebody in a newsgroup to take a look and check it's working.
